Sailing trip with EnglischAlternativ

English isn’t just something to learn; it’s something to live.

This past week, I had an unforgettable experience that reinforced something I love telling anyone who will listen (and sometimes even those who won’t!) – learning a language can be fun, dynamic, and downright hilarious if you let yourself play with it.

So, picture this: an Australian, three Germans, and an Erzgebirgler walk onto a sailboat… No, it’s not the start of a joke (although it could be), this actually happened! My friend Uwe Schneider, the mastermind behind AKE Systemtechnik GmbH, invited me and his elite team of professionals on a sailing trip off the sun-kissed shores of Corfu.

What could go wrong, right?

For six glorious days, we sailed through the blue waters, speaking English, German, Sächsisch, and Erzgebirgisch, with a few accidental words that might have even been Greek (who knows?). The wind wasn’t the only thing filling the sails – our boat was buoyed by laughter from sunrise to sunset. What started as a sailing trip while speaking English quickly transformed into a comedy show, where every word, mistake, and mishap became an opportunity to connect, crack up and learn.

There was no business jargon or formalities holding us back – just the freedom to let language flow as naturally as the sea beneath our boat. When you mix languages with a healthy dose of humor, something magical happens: communication turns into playful exploration. In that lighthearted space, language transcends its usual boundaries and becomes something truly special.

Everyone on board felt it – that sense of freedom, connection, and discovery. It’s an experience I wish more people could share, where learning becomes less about perfection and more about enjoying the journey.

At EnglischAlternativ, this is exactly the kind of playful, immersive approach we bring to the table (or in this case, the boat). Whether you’re trying to navigate English for business or just looking to sharpen your skills, we make sure becoming more fluent feels like an adventure – not a chore. We’ve found the perfect balance between learning and laughter, because let’s be honest, no one ever remembers the time they aced grammar rules, but everyone remembers the time they said „I become a sausage, please

So, what’s my message after this unforgettable week? Language isn’t just something to learn; it’s something to live – whether you’re in the boardroom or on a boat.

If you’re ready to break down barriers, boost your confidence, and maybe even have a few laughs along the way, we’re here to help you.

Let’s meet for a cup of coffee or tea and discuss your unique journey to freedom and confidence in English.
